History and background of mLearn

The mLearn conference series began in 2002 as a workshop on Mobile and Contextual Learning, held at the University of Birmingham.  It attracted 80 delegates from six countries, including researchers, policy makers and new media developers.  Since then the horizons of mLearn have expanded from Birmingham, to London with 150 delegates (2003), Rome with some 200 delegates (2004), and now South Africa.

mLearn 2005, the 4th World conference on mLearning, fulfils the need for stimulating critical debate on and research into theories, approaches, principles and applications of mLearning (mobile learning).  It provides an opportunity for professionals from industry, as well as researchers, educators, technologists and practitioners, to share their knowledge, experience and research in the various areas where mLearning is applied.  The conference also serves as an incubator to promote mLearning in Africa.
